The Process Control Specialist, Borger Refinery works on the Automation team and provides technical expertise on all DCS systems. This position works closely with Plant Maintenance, Instrument & Controls Engineers, Reliability, Operations and Process personnel, and Capitol Project Teams on all process control opportunities.

Responsibilities May Include:

  • Install, maintain and troubleshoot the following hardware:

    • Honeywell DCS systems

    • Bently Nevada systems

    • Safety Instrumented Systems

    • Programmable logic controllers (PLC)

    • Wireless communication systems

    • Engine Fuel/Air control systems

    • Graphic interface packages

    • Other miscellaneous control systems

  • Maintain and patch the DCS, Windows and Virus protection software

  • Assure compliance with Management of Change Policy

  • Implement and maintain regulatory control schemes from single loop to more complex cascade and feed-forward strategies

  • Respond to control system hardware failures

  • Participate as required in project related activities

  • Create, maintain, modify and troubleshoot DCS databases and graphics

  • Providing Technical Assurance for Process control and instrumentation concerns at the unit operator level

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions

  • Associate's Degree or higher in Electronics/Instrumentation

  • Valid driver's license

  • Intermediate proficiency in reading schematics, loop sheets, P&ID's and technical manuals

  • Working knowledge of instrument and electrical systems and control system theory

  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of experience in the refining and/or chemical industry

  • 1 or more years of experience in the installation use and maintenance of Distributive Control systems such as: Honeywell TDC 3000, Honeywell Experion, Foxboro, Delta V

  • 1 or more years of experience in configuring, interpreting, and troubleshooting PLC logic

  • 1 or more years of experience in the installation, use, and maintenance of Programmable Logic Controllers

  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Windows, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)

The Borger Refinery is located in Borger, Texas, in the Texas Panhandle, approximately 50 miles north of Amarillo, Texas. Refinery facilities include crude distilling, naphtha reforming, fluid catalytic cracking, alkylation, hydrodesulfurization and delayed coking units. The refinery processes primarily medium sour crude oil produced locally, and heavy sour crude oil produced in Canada, all of which are delivered by pipeline. Borger produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, as well as petroleum coke, NGLs and solvents. Refined products are distributed to customers via pipelines from the refinery to West Texas, New Mexico, Colorado and the Midcontinent region.
