Our Sweeny Refinery , in Old Ocean, Texas, 65 miles southwest of Houston, processes mainly heavy, high-sulfur crude oil as well as some light, low-sulfur crude oil. Sweeny receives U.S.- advantaged and foreign crude oil primarily through wholly and jointly owned terminals on the Gulf Coast, including a deepwater terminal at Freeport, Texas.
A technical internship with Phillips 66 Sweeny Refinery will allow you opportunities to make contributions that support our overall Refining organization.
As an Instrumentation Technician Intern you will get to work closely with experienced professionals while learning how to maintain refinery controls, monitoring and safety instrumentation systems. This will expose you to the following:
Repairing, troubleshooting, and maintaining Refinery electronic and pneumatic instrumentation, including controllers, control valves, transmitters, analyzers, and vibration equipment using Distributive Control Systems and the maintenance and programming of Programmable Logic Controllers.
Preventative and predictive maintenance for instrument equipment.
Inspecting, testing, and documentation of safety systems to meet OSHA regulations.
Pre-startup safety reviews and new project technical reviews.
Requirements for a Phillips 66 Internship:
Legally authorized to work in the job posting country
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must maintain a valid driver's license
Pursuing an Associates degree in Instrumentation or Electronics program or equivalent technical program
Currently enrolled as a full-time student in an undergraduate program
Available to intern for a minimum of ten continuous weeks
Graduation date of Summer 2023 or later
Willing and able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform/comply with the following:
Work overtime (including weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts)
Lift up to 50 pounds
Work in enclosed spaces such as tanks and silos
Work safely near large, hot, high-speed machines
Climb up to 200 feet in height; work at elevated heights
Work around chemicals, including acids and bases
Wear fire retardant clothing and personal protective equipment (such as steel-toed shoes, ear/eye protection)
Maintain face daily so that a respirator/face mask can seal properly
Work outside in harsh weather conditions
A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
Previous internship or co-op participant in related industry
Previous internship with Phillips 66
